Power Speaking Intermediate

This course gives students as much speaking and listening practice as possible. Functional lessons build practical, everyday English for situations such as shopping, ordering at restaurants, and job interviews, while stimulating discussions and vocabulary-building exercises sharpen academic skills. Using a communicative approach, the class gives students many opportunities to share their opinions and creativity. The teacher encourages active participation and gives daily corrective feedback on pronunciation, articulation, vocabulary, grammar, intonation, and word and syllable stress.

Students are encouraged to review course vocabulary and materials outside class to accelerate their progress.

Class Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Respond to complex discussion questions in depth
• Describe their opinions and feelings using a wider vocabulary
• Talk about emotions and relationships, order food, and give directions
• Create and perform dialogues using course vocabulary
• Speak in public using formal vocabulary and sentence structures
• Prepare and deliver effective presentations within a set time limit
• Work cooperatively with classmates to complete speaking tasks

To progress to the next level, a score of 75% is required.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is essential to success in this class. Students who miss more than 3 days per session will find it very difficult to keep up.
