Power Speaking High-Intermediate

This course builds practical, everyday English through functional lessons while helping students move from a conversational foundation to more complex, academic English. Students have many opportunities to work in groups and give in-class presentations, and bi-weekly assignments track their progress and provide regular feedback. As in all Power Speaking courses, activities focus on active participation, pronunciation, and listening skills.

Students are encouraged to review course vocabulary and materials outside class to accelerate their progress.

Class Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Express their opinions clearly on a variety of topics
• Create engaging discussion questions
• Understand more complex and academic topics
• Discuss advanced topics such as crime, law, and society
• Organize and prepare a formal debate
• Create dialogues and sentences using more technical and scientific vocabulary
• Prepare and deliver presentations within a set time limit
• Work cooperatively with classmates on speaking tasks and presentations

• Speaking and listening: 50%

To progress to the next level, a score of 75% is required.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is essential to success in this class. Students who miss more than 3 days per session will find it very difficult to keep up.
