Power Speaking High-Intermediate

This course offers practical, everyday English skills through functional English lessons with the additional goal of aiding in the transition from a conversational English foundation, to a more complex and academic one. Students will have ample opportunities to work in groups, and complete in-class presentations. Additionally, bi-weekly assignments will help in evaluating students’ levels and provide plenty of opportunities for feedback. As with all Power Speaking courses, class activities are focused on active participation, pronunciation, and listening skills.

Students are encouraged to study course vocabulary and materials outside of the class in order to accelerate their learning progress.

Class Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

- Clearly express their opinions on a variety of topics
- Form stimulating discussion questions
- Have an understanding of more complex / academic topics
- Organize and prepare a formal debate
- Create dialogues and sentences using more scientific vocabulary
- Discuss more advanced topics like crime, law, and society
- Prepare and organize presentations within a limited time-frame
- Work cooperatively with classmates to complete speaking tasks / presentations

To progress to the next level, a score of 70% is required.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is an integral part of this class. Students who miss more than 3 days per session will find it very difficult to improve or keep up.
